# Deleting your data

Remove one dictation, all of them, or everything Blabb holds — and the one folder uninstalling leaves behind.

Four levels, smallest first. Pick the smallest one that does what you need.

## One dictation

Open **History**, find the entry, and use **Delete** on its toolbar. It is gone from the database
immediately.

If that was the wrong entry, [[Ctrl]]+[[Z]] puts it back, or use the undo button that appears. You have
about six seconds: the bar dismisses itself after that, and once it has gone [[Ctrl]]+[[Z]] does nothing.
So undo it there and then, not after you have thought about it.

## All of your history

**Clear history** at the top of the History window deletes every entry. It asks you to confirm
first, because there is no undo for this one.

Your settings, your saved words and your licence are untouched.

## Everything Blabb holds about you

Settings → **Privacy** → **Delete Blabb data**. It removes:

- your dictation history
- your saved words
- your logs

It deliberately keeps three things: **your settings**, **your licence**, and **the integrity
audit log**.

The first two are the ones people ask about, and it is worth saying why. Deleting your words should
not sign you out of the product you paid for, and it should not hand you back an app you have to
configure from scratch. Someone clearing their history before handing the laptop to a colleague, or
after a sensitive dictation, wants the words gone — not their microphone choice, their shortcut and
their subscription gone with them.

The third is less obvious. The audit log is a tamper-evident record of security events, kept as a
legal-obligation record rather than because it holds anything you dictated.

The confirmation says so in as many words, and this one cannot be undone.

> If what you actually want is your settings back to default, that is a different button:
> Settings → **General** → **Reset all settings**. It leaves your history and saved words alone.

## Everything, including the app

Uninstalling Blabb through Windows removes the application. It does **not** remove
`%LocalAppData%\Blabb`.

So to leave nothing behind:

1. Run **Delete Blabb data** first, or skip to step 2 — either way works.
2. Uninstall Blabb through Windows Settings → **Apps**.
3. Open File Explorer, paste `%LocalAppData%\Blabb` into the address bar, and delete the folder.

Step 3 is the one people miss. Nothing outside that folder needs cleaning up. Note that deleting it
also removes your saved licence — keep the key from your subscription email if you plan to install
again.

## Letting it delete itself

You do not have to remember any of this. Settings → **Privacy** → **Keep dictation history** sets
how long entries survive:

| Option | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| **Don't save** | Nothing is written to history at all |
| **1 day** | Yesterday's dictations are gone |
| **1 week** | The default |
| **1 month** | |
| **Forever** | Nothing is removed automatically |

The default is **1 week**, which is long enough to find yesterday's email and short enough that
nothing accumulates quietly for years. If you never look at history, **Don't save** is the cleanest
setting there is — nothing to delete because nothing was written.

Cancelling a dictation also writes nothing to history.
