# Per-app settings

When text lands badly in one app, change how it is entered for that app alone and leave everything else as it was.

Every app you dictate into gets recorded on this page. For each one you can choose a different way
of entering text, so the app that garbles your paragraphs gets fixed without changing anything that
already works.

The page says it plainly at the top: "If text does not appear correctly in an app, choose a
different text entry option for that app."

## What you can do here

| Control | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Text entry** | The method used in that app. The dropdown lists **Use default setting**, Type fast, Paste, Type slowly, Direct. |
| **Remove** | Takes that app off the list. It comes back the next time you dictate into it. |
| **Remove all** | Empties the list. |

Apps are identified by their executable name, which is the name of the program file rather than the
title in the window. One entry covers the app wherever you use it.

## The workflow

You are dictating into six things a day and five of them are fine. The sixth drops half the words,
or types them out of order, or takes nothing at all.

1. Note which app it was.
2. Open Settings, **Per-app settings**.
3. Find that app in the list and give it a different **Text entry** method.
4. Dictate into it again.

Type fast is the global default, so if that is what the app is already getting, try Direct, then
Paste, and leave Type slowly for last — it only handles plain ASCII, so it is no use for accented or

**Use default setting** puts an app back to whatever you have chosen globally, which is the thing
to pick when you have been experimenting and want to start again.

## Removing an app is not a setting

**Remove** clears that app's entry. It does not block the app, and it does not stop Blabb typing
into it — the next dictation there puts it straight back on the list using your global default.

Use it to tidy up something you tried once, or to reset an app whose custom method you no longer
want. **Remove all** does the same to every entry at once.

> The list is a record of where you have dictated, not a permission list. Nothing on it grants or
> denies access to anything.

## Not to be confused with Auto-select per app

There is a second per-app feature, and it lives somewhere else and does something entirely
different.

| **Auto-select per app** | Settings, Writing style | How the text is *worded* in that app. |

**Auto-select per app** picks a cleanup style based on the app you are dictating into — a lighter
touch for a chat box than for a document. It is off by default and it never changes the placement.

worded wrong, you want that one.
