# Transcribing your computer's sound

Point Blabb at what your PC is playing instead of your microphone, and know exactly what you get back.

Settings, **Voice input**, **Listen to**. Switch it from **Microphone** to **Computer sound** and
Blabb transcribes what the PC is playing rather than what you are saying — a call, a recorded
meeting, a video you are watching.

Everything else works the way it always does. You press the shortcut, Blabb listens, and the text is
typed into whatever window had focus. The only change is where the audio comes from.

## What you get

A running transcript of the sound, cleaned up by whichever cleanup style you have set, typed at your
cursor.

That is genuinely useful for a meeting you are also taking notes in, or for pulling a quote out of
a video without scrubbing back and forth. Put the cursor in your notes, press the shortcut, and
let it run.

## What you do not get

Be clear about this before you rely on it for something that matters.

- **No speaker separation.** Blabb does not work out how many people are talking or split the
  transcript between them.
- **No labels for who said what.** There is no "Speaker 1", no names, no attribution of any kind.
- **No handling of people talking over each other.** Two voices at once are transcribed as what
  Blabb heard, which is two voices at once.

It transcribes the sound. Reading back a meeting transcript, you will know what was said and not
who said it.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> If you need to know who said what, this is not the feature for it. There is no setting that turns
> speaker separation on, because there is none to turn on.

## Remember to switch back

**Listen to** is a single setting, not a per-dictation choice. Left on **Computer sound**, your next
ordinary dictation will transcribe your music rather than your voice. If a dictation comes out as
something you were listening to, this is why.

## It overwrites your microphone choice

There is one saved device slot, shared between both modes. Switch to **Computer sound** and the
device picker below re-fills with playback devices and renames itself **Playback device**. Pick one
and it goes into the same slot your microphone choice was in — so the microphone you had chosen is
overwritten.

Switch back to **Microphone** and check the picker before you dictate. If it is not the microphone
you expect, set it again.

## One courtesy

Recording other people in a meeting is their business as much as yours — tell them, and check
whatever rules apply where you work.
